Making Hay While the Smoke Clears
While the nation mourns and peels away the debri of 9/11, the Bush Administration licks their chops as they peel away our constitutional rights and ramrod their agenda through Congress in the name of war-time unity and bipartisanship.  The right sees now as the appropriate time for a crackdown on all forms of dissent.  Even when it's not even remotely connected to the war on terrorism.   Somehow not supporting free trade and reductions in the capital gains tax makes your patriotism suspect.  At this point no one should be surprised at the utter contempt for democracy and the rule of law displayed by George W. Bush and John Ashcroft.   Just look at the circumstances surrounding Bush's assumption of power.  The man was installed President by a Republican-dominated supreme court, after having been rejected by the voters.  And John Ashcroft, well the man lost an election to a corpse.   The result is no surprise.  Bush signed an executive order establishing military tribunals, effectively making a fair trial impossible.  Congress did their part to subvert the constitution, by passing the USA PATRIOT Act, which essentially nullifies portions of the 1st, 4th, and 5th Amendments to the Bill of Rights.

We now have an unelected, illegitimate President cravenly dismantling the constitution by executive fiat.
